ok so basically i'm pretty new to guitar. i took some lessons a few years ago through a school program and long story short the program fell through after a year and my guitar teacher moved to NYC lol, and i actually just had my first guitar lesson since then tonight :D anyways, my friend had told me before [because he knew i played a little] that his friend was selling an electric guitar, and asked me if i was interrested, and i said maybe. so tonight on facebook his friend IM'd me and told me about the guitar and amp and asked me how much did i think was a fair price? i literally had no idea because 1. i really don't know much about the price range of guitars [my parents bought me the one i have lol] 2. everything i know about guitars is acoustic. so i really dont know much about this stuff lol. anyways he said its a fender starcaster and a 10 watt amp. the guitar isn't that new, he bought it for $220 used, but its in good condition with no scratches or dings or anything. when i told him i didnt know about the price, he offered to sell the guitar and amp to me for $150, and i told him i would have to think about it but i was indeed interrested in it. when i googled it, starcasters were going for around $150+ online, so it seems like a fair price. however im not sure so i just decided to ask you all :]

im planing on making my starcaster better and i wanted to know if i can buy parts from stratocaster an put is on my starcaster
I know nothing about guitars and want to buy my bf a guitar. for a beginner which of these two is best? (or does anyone have any suggestions? im trying to find something under $200)

Ok, My guitar is buzzing really badly on the second and third fret ONLY, I've been playing guitar for over a year and a half now, so I am pretty sure its not my playing. I've had this problem since I bought the guitar, I never thought much of it until I changed the strings. An employee at Guitar Center said I might have to get the guitar "re-fretted". I don't really have a clue what's causing it, but its really getting annoying. any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm debating on which guitar I should buy, so I figured I'd turn to the Internet to make up my mind for me.
I'm looking at three different guitars: The Starcaster by Fender, the Epiphone Junior Les Paul, and the Epiphone Les Paul Special II. All of them are beginner guitars in the ~$200 range, which is pretty much my budget.
I'm looking for a moderately low action out of the box, which I hear the Jr has, but I could always adjust it myself. I like the twin open-coil humbuckers on the LP Special II too. I'd really prefer humbuckers, but I've heard and played the Starcaster and it doesn't sound too shabby either. I've literally seen one fall apart though.
I'm leaning towards the LP Special II, but I want to get some other opinions too. I mostly play classic to hard rock, like Guns N' Roses and the like, with some good 'ol hair metal and *good* punk rock thown in (New York Dolls, etc) for good measure. So, what would be recommended by you, Internet peoples?
